Industry Specialisations

Remedial Massage

This is the area within the industry that has had the most growth and change in recent years. There are 2 main reasons that Remedial massage is a rewarding career path.

First of all, you can help someone who comes to you with an injury. Whether they find you themselves or they are referred from their GP or physiotherapist, you can help them to health.

Secondly, remedial massage has long been recognised as being a ‘repairing' treatment, focused on treating specific problems. Now the majority of health funds also recognise the benefits that Remedial massage gives and qualified Remedial Therapists can now offer private health care rebates for treatments just like your local physiotherapist or chiropractor!

A growing trend in the industry is multi-modality clinics where clients can benefit from multiple allied heath professionals in one place and all offering private health care rebates to make it affordable. Just imagine working alongside chiropractors and physiotherapists in your own your own multi-modality clinic!

Sports Massage

For Elite athletes, their body is their source of income and they push it to its limits. Because of this they need to keep their bodies fit, healthy and stress free.

There are three main areas where sports massage can be useful to an athlete: pre-event, post-event, and injury treatment.

• Pre-event massage is fast-paced and stimulating, it helps to establish blood flow and to warm up muscles.
• Post-event massage is to calm the nervous system and begin the process of flushing toxins and waste products out of the body. Post-event massage can reduce recovery time, enabling an athlete to resume training much sooner than rest alone would allow.
• When an athlete sustains an injury, skilful massage therapy can often speed and improve the quality of healing.

This is primarily a daytime operation where you will have a number of corporate clients in your location.

It is becoming all the more important that people look after themselves, not only with their physical health but also their mental health and well being, what better way to achieve this than with relaxation massage. The opportunities to work within this area of the industry are endless.

You can work in a resort or day spa, even on a cruise ship. There are also many opportunities to set up your own practice; all you need is a room and a table or for a mobile service, a car and a table. Set-up costs are minimal!
