Diploma Of Massage

Benefits of Studying the Diploma of Massage (Remedial)

The Diploma of Remedial Massage [HLT50307] (often referred to as the Diploma of Massage) offers a number of distinct advantages for the therapists over just having the Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice [HLT40307] (which is often called the Certificate of Massage).

 Remedial treatment

There are two major types of benefits the Diploma of Massage offers the therapist over the Certificate of Massage and they are the commercial benefits and the treatment benefits.

Commercial benefits of the Diploma of Massage

1. Rebate advantage of the Diploma of Massage:

The most obvious benefit the Diploma of Massage offers is the ability to offer clients rebates on their treatment fees if they have private health fund insurance. The Diploma of Massage entitles the therapist to obtain a Private Health Care Provider Number whereby a client can receive a considerable rebate from their insurance and reducing the actual cost of the remedial treatment by half with some funds. That means the net cost to the client can therefore be significantly less then if they had a treatment from a therapist that did not have a Diploma of Massage which is a significant commercial advantage.

2. Employment advantage of the Diploma of Massage:

Over 75% of all massage jobs now already require a Diploma of Massage and that number is continually increasing as more and more employers are demanding a Diploma of Remedial Massage as a minimum qualification

3. Increased Hourly Rate advantage of the Diploma of Massage:

Clinics & employers can charge more & therefore pay more for Remedial treatments if you have the Diploma of massage.

4. Increase Client Base advantage of the Diploma of Massage:

More & more clients are becoming aware of the benefits of Remedial massage as well as the financial benefits of claiming that on their Private Health Care Insurance

5. Job Satisfaction advantage of the Diploma of Massage:

Helping people rehabilitate is giving therapists a greater professional satisfaction then just providing relaxation massages.

6. Longevity of Career advantage of the Diploma of Massage: (both physical and mental)

Remedial treatments are often less physically taxing on the therapist then the typical deep tissue or relaxation massages

7. Client Results advantage of the Diploma of Massage:

Clients are often amazed at the results of remedial treatments and the mobility benefits they provide

8. University Study Pathways advantage of the Diploma of Massage:

A Diploma of Remedial Massage can provide up to 1 years worth of University credits at specific Universities with articulation agreements

9. Allied Professional Status advantage of the Diploma of Massage:

Remedial Massage Therapists frequently work together with other Allied Health professionals in multi modality clinics as they all have private Health Care Provider numbers

Treatment benefits the Diploma of Massage offers over just the Certificate of Massage

You may be asking yourself “why should I choose a diploma of massage?” “What does the diploma of massage offer that the certificate of massage doesn’t?” Well…

Dysfunction is an everyday issue that we will all face at some stage in our lives, if not already. It’s frustrating, painful and draining.

The Diploma of massage follows on from where the certificate of massage left off. The fundamentals of anatomy and physiology already having been learnt in the certificate of massage becomes the building blocks for a new array of knowledge. In the diploma of massage, therapists are first taught the principles behind remedial therapy and the difference from other modalities of massage as well as a step-by-step postural assessment and musculoskeletal screen, helping to find what regions of the body are problematic. This part of the Diploma of Massage course is referred to as ‘Remedial massage essentials’.

Once the therapists have a firm grasp on the fundamentals the real fun begins with ‘Remedial massage practice. This section of the Diploma of Massage is divided into sections of the body i.e. spine and neck, where the anatomy of the specific region is taught first, then kinematics or ‘movements’ of the region, followed by special tests and treatment options for the specific region.

Relaxation massage is the basics of the Certificate of Massage and helps clients de-stress, unwind, relieve tension and sleep better, but does it ever really fix the problem? Wouldn’t you prefer to get to the bottom of the cause, not try and deal with symptoms?

With the diploma of massage the therapist will learn remedial therapy; “the assessment and treatment of soft tissue dysfunctions that cause pain and restrict range of motion”.

In the Diploma of Massage therapists will learn:

·        A step-by-step postural assessment

·        The general musculoskeletal screen (a 15 step screening process to identify regions that are dysfunctional and need further assessment).

·        Diseases of the cells, tissues, bones and joints

·        Dysfunctions of the spine, neck, shoulder, arm, hand, thorax, lumbar, pelvis, hip, leg and foot.

·        Therapeutic techniques
